Astaro Security Gateway Features

Note: These features are not included in the standard Astaro Security Gateway feature set, they are optional features which are available at extra cost.

Email Filtering subscription (anti virus, spam filtering, and phishing protection for email)

Both incoming and outgoing email is checked against a two separate virus databases of known viruses and malicious code, which are automatically updated hourly. There is no restriction on number of domains or number of messages per hour. Spam is processed through a set of sophisticated filtering gateways based on open source spamassassin and razor rules, updated daily. Even URLs within the email are checked against lists of known spammers. Administrators can quarantine, mark or reject suspect emails. End users can be sent a summary of spam which they are able to release individually without involving the administrator.

Email Encryption subscription (encryption/decryption and digital signatures for email)

Encrypt, decrypt and digital sign emails, based on S/MIME and OpenPGP standards. Outgoing e-mails from defined users are automatically encrypted and/or signed. All incoming emails are automatically decrypted, verified and checked via the internal virus and content scanner. As these procedures occur centrally on the Astaro Security Gateway with complete transparency for the end user, no additional encryption software is required on the client itself.

Web Filtering subscription (anti virus, content filtering and spyware protection for web)

Protect your network from viruses downloaded from the internet by http or ftp. Both virus protection options can fetch virus rules from Astaro hourly.

Content filtering gives companies the ability to intelligently process web content viewable by staff. By using our URL blocking feature, companies can protect their corporate assets, reduce their legal liability, increase employee productivity and maximize their network’s bandwidth. With 17 unique filtering categories as well as the world's largest URL filtering database of unwanted Internet content which contains more than 12 million domains with 1.9 billion URLs, updated daily.

Spyware and adware software is blocked at the firewall before it enters your network and infects computers. Messages from spyware applications inside your network are also intercepted before they can reach the internet and the spyware writer's web site.

This option also enables the Web Proxy feature.

Gold Maintenance

Updates to firewall features, intrusion protection rules and security patches are retrieved automatically by your Astaro firewall via a secure service. These updates are available while you maintain your Maintenance subscription. The Astaro license itself will never expire, but you will not be able to upgrade it for new features or security patches after your Maintenance subscription expires. The updating system in Astaro is one of its key features: it is extremely easy to keep your firewall updated.

Email and telephone technical support is also offered without additional charge through the USA Astaro support centre. This support is offered 7am-9pm Pacific Time (roughly 1am-3pm Australian EST, Tuesday-Saturday). Response within these times will be within 2 hours for critical issues (involving downtime or severe problems), 4 hours for high level issues (such an intermittent faults) and one day for minor issues or questions.

Platinum Maintenance

This higher level of support offers all of the above 24 x 7 instead of only US business hours plus a priority position in the Astaro job queue.
